KB Recovery Treatment Specialties

The Treatment Program at KB Recovery starts bright and early. We incorporate a holistic approach to meet with the client's physiological, emotional, and spiritual needs. Some of the elements that make up our treatment program consists of the following:

Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy provides an opportunity to process past or present emotional, physical, and sexual abuse with a professional psychotherapist. Individual sessions are typically done three times weekly or on "as needed" basis. We believe that our clients need time to process and feel what transpired in the therapy.

Psychotherapy Process Group
The therapy groups are designed with an emphasis on participation including constructive feedback to others. The emphasis is on self-expression, identifying and overcoming current destructive behavior patterns and expanding social skills. Individual therapy will vary with each individual treatment plan and is to complement the group therapy. These groups are done typically on daily basis.

Yoga
Yoga sessions are offered daily by highly trained and certified instructors. The purpose of yoga is to teach our patients to become more aware of the body-mind connection through the practice of asanas (Yoga postures), pranayama (breath work), and meditation. Yoga can help our patients improve their physical and mental health and give them great vitality. It will also teach them how to relax, find peace of mind, and develop mental strength and focus.

Massage Therapy
(Optional with advanced agreement)
Our massage therapists are certified who use both yoga and bodywork as tools to rediscover a mind/body connection, release physical, mental and emotional blocks and develop a healthier, balanced lifestyle. Massage therapy is offered only upon previous agreement.

Music & Art Therapy
Allows for the opportunity to have some good / sober fun.

Awakening/Check-In/Circle
Awakening/Check-In/Circle facilitates daily reflection upon how individual goals are being achieved, brief reporting of feelings, awareness, reading affirmations and sharing positive encouragement as well as constructive feedback.

Community Meeting
Community Meeting provides a therapeutic opportunity to discuss issues relating to improving the atmosphere within the program "community." Rules, responsibilities, and logical consequences can be presented and/or reviewed.

Recreational Therapy
Physical activity emphasizes participation as a method of developing cooperative group skills. Planning for the therapeutic outings emphasizes the importance of recreational activities to the development and maintenance of emotional health. Community resources are explored which includes trips to our beautiful beaches and walks by the nearby Balboa Lake.

Ask the Doctor Q & A
The purpose of this group is to allow the patients to ask the medical doctor any questions that they may have. This may include but be limited to questions regarding medications, and other medically related questions.

Relapse Prevention Group
This group is intended to help the patients in understanding what RELAPSE means in simple terms. Often patients who think that he or she is in "chronic relapse" actually have never relapsed. One reason for this is because they have not experienced the "process of recovery." We also help our clients understand that Relapse is a process and not an event.

12 Step Group/Writing Assignment
This group will focus on the first three steps of the 12-Step Philosophy. Upon admission clients are given admission packages which include steps 1, 2, and 3. With the help of their personal chemical dependency counselor, the clients are encouraged to complete these steps and upon completion to read their steps in the group. This will allow the patient to recognize, admit, and understand the problems at hand and how to deal with the reality of being an abuser of alcohol and/or other drugs. Additionally, patients are often encouraged to give each other constructive criticism or feedback. We at KB RECOVERY believe that the first three steps are crucial elements of having long-term / overall success in recovery.

Co-Dependency & Relational Communication
Co-Dependency & Relational Communication is designed to help understand how to develop, maintain, and enhance healthy relationships through carrying, encouragement, candid communication, and negotiation.

Patient/Family Process Group / Family Visit & BBQ
We believe that addiction is a family illness because it affects the entire family. This group focuses on the family and involves the family. The group scheduled on Saturdays, and our patients are encouraged to invite their families. Lectures, discussions, educational material, videos, tapes, and writing assignments will be components of the group. The families are invited to return for a more social visit which includes enjoying a backyard barbecue by the pool.

Cognitive Behavior Intervention
Cognitive Behavior Intervention provides sound techniques for redirecting personal energy in positive, healthy, growth-producing mental and social activities. It identifies passive and internal mechanisms for suppressing feelings that turn negatively inward.

Discharge Planning
At KB RECOVERY discharge planning starts from day one. We emphasize the importance of making good plans for after care and will assist you in each and every step of this critical task.
