A message from the founder
Dear Friends :
After a life long battle with addiction that lasted almost 20 years I got clean and sober in September 1995. I started using drugs in high school. Marijuana was the first drug of my choosing. Later I started experimenting with other drugs including hallucinogens , Alcohol, Cocaine, and pretty much what ever I could get my hands on. Heroin was the final drug that pretty much completely ruined my life. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I just knew that drugs made me forget all my problems. It basically numbed the pain.
The more drugs I did the less interested I became in all other activities such as sports. I went from being a strong athlete , competitive swimmer, boxer, football player to someone who was lost, spiritually and emotionally bankrupt. I spent the last 10 years of my using trying to stop. I knew that Heroin was killing me, but just didn't know how to stop. I tried several different methods and philosophies. Moved away to Europe for a while, got admitted to countless rehabs. Perhaps 25 to 30 admissions . Nothing seemed to work. At times I thought of killing myself and ending the misery.
I've been asked many times what finally made you want to quit? The truth is I don't exactly know. I think A spiritual awakening definitely played a big role in stopping the insanity. I believe that one has to surrender before winning the battle. Healing is a process, it's not an event. It doesn't happen overnight and regrettably it doesn't always happen when you want it to. It may even be an unconscious decision. At the age of 36 I finally reached my point of surrender and I haven't looked back since then.
I'm now 55 years old, happily married with a beautiful 5 year old daughter. Life isn't always perfect, but I've learned through the years that drugs and or alcohol will not fix my problems. I believe in this 100 % with all my heart. In fact drugs will make the problems worse. After a few hours of feeling numb you will wake up to facing reality again.
At this time I would like to share some serious concerns I have with the so called healing community that claim to have a "quick fix cure" or guarantee your success. The fact is my friends, there are no guarantees or quick fix cures in life.
Recovery from a progressive and deadly illness takes time and patience. As I expressed earlier, healing is an ongoing and slow process. It is not an event. Just like anything else that is long lasting and good, healing will take time. Keep in mind that most folks recover at a different pace. There isn't a set formula or a specific philosophy that helps everyone the same way. Remember , you are not in a race! You have the rest of your life to get better.
Our aim here at KB Recovery is to formulate and design a recovery program based on each individual's needs. We take into consideration several factors regarding your past and present life events. It usually takes a few weeks before we can help you discover what formula or philosophy will best help you.
Some people prefer and benefit more from one on one therapy sessions. Others like group activities. We encourage our guests to take part in as many activities as possible. For best results try everything that we offer. Yoga helps with stress and anxiety, Music therapy is good for the sprit, we also offer swimming / pool therapy. One on one individual and group therapy. Exercise and gym time is helpful. Our integrative team approach allows us to provide the highest level of care to everyone who enters into out treatment program.
Finally I know first hand, what it's like to suffer. The great news is that you don't have to suffer anymore. Give life and happiness a chance. As long as you don't quit, you can't loose.
